Privacy notice
Last updated 22 October 2026
The short version
You don't sign up and we don't ask for your name or email. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies, and we don't sell anything about you. The only personal information involved is what any website gets, plus whatever the video services collect when their films play.
Who we are
Rewind is run by Paul in the United Kingdom, who is the data controller. Contact: pipcan@outlook.com.
What we keep
- Years and places searched. When you ask for a year and place, we save the running order of films we found so the next person gets it instantly. We also count views. This isn't linked to you or your device.
- Server logs. Like any website, our server may briefly record your IP address, the page you asked for and the time, for security and fixing problems. These logs are deleted routinely and never used to identify or profile you.
- Admin login. If you run the site, we keep your email and a scrambled (hashed) password, plus a login cookie while you're signed in.
Our legal basis is legitimate interests: running a working, secure website.
Cookies
Rewind sets no tracking or advertising cookies. The only cookie is a small session cookie. It keeps the admin signed in, and occasionally carries a one-off message to you, like "type a year". It's strictly necessary, so it doesn't need consent.
Other services the page uses
When you watch, your browser connects directly to these services, and they receive your IP address and normal browser information under their own privacy policies:
- YouTube (Google) plays most films. We use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), which doesn't set cookies until a video plays. Google Privacy Policy.
- Internet Archive plays some films. Internet Archive terms and privacy.
- Wikimedia Commons plays some films and supplies thumbnails. Wikimedia Privacy Policy.
- Google Fonts supplies the lettering on the page. Google Privacy Policy.
Our server's searches of YouTube, the Internet Archive and Wikipedia only send the year and place, never anything about you.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, or object to how we use it. Email pipcan@outlook.com. Since we don't collect names or accounts, there's usually nothing to find. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
Changes
If this notice changes, the date at the top will change too. See also our Terms of use.
